The term derives from the Latin\u00a0<em>callis<\/em>.<\/p>\r\n\r\n<p><br \/>Except for a few which have preserved the old Italian voice &#8220;ruga&#8221; or its diminutive &#8220;rughetta&#8221;, and other very few, large and recent, that sun are called &#8220;streets&#8221;, all the others are just\u00a0<strong>Venetian\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/venicewiki.org\/wiki\/Calle\">Calle<\/a><\/strong>.<br \/><\/p>\r\n<p>l -Others are the terms that indicate other Venetian streets;<br \/><\/p>\r\n\r\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\r\n<figure class=\"alignleft is-resized\"><a href=\"https:\/\/farm1.static.flickr.com\/55\/137634115_70da017cb9.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/farm1.static.flickr.com\/55\/137634115_70da017cb9_m.jpg\" alt=\"narrowStreet\" width=\"294\" height=\"564\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\r\n<\/div>\r\n\r\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\r\n\r\n<ul>\r\n<li>The\u00a0<strong>salizada<\/strong>, which indicates the first tract of the area paved in flint, with the\u00a0<em>stone pavement<\/em>\u00a0(&#8220;salizo&#8221;);<\/li>\r\n<li>The\u00a0<strong>lista&#8217;\u00a0<em>(as\u00a0<\/em><\/strong><em>Lista di Spagna&#8217;<\/em>) calling the streets where some white stones on the ground, placed parallel to the buildings, marked the limit of the place of diplomatic immunity before the palace of an ambassador;<\/li>\r\n<li>The\u00a0<strong>Piscina,(pool)<\/strong>\u00a0(there are many places mentioned by this name, one for all\u00a0<strong>Piscina San Samuele<\/strong>) where there was a pool of water in the remote topography, which flooded during high tide and fish remained imprisoned when the water flowed and you could pick up the fish that remained in locked, imprisoned,\u00a0<em>in secca<\/em>, without water;<\/li>\r\n<li><strong>Rio ter\u00e0<\/strong>\u00a0where, in place of the pedestrian street, there was previously a channel, then buried;<\/li>\r\n<li><strong>Ramo (Branch)<\/strong>\u00a0indicating a lower side of a street, usually no way out or in the outlet channel.<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n\r\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\r\n\r\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\r\n<figure class=\"alignright is-resized\"><a href=\"https:\/\/venicewiki.org\/wiki\/Immagine:Calle_a_rialto.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/venicewiki.org\/images\/thumb\/8\/84\/Calle_a_rialto.jpg\/250px-Calle_a_rialto.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"367\" height=\"630\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\r\n<\/div>\r\n\r\n<p>The width of the streets can vary from 0.60 mt. the destination to 6\/8 meters of larger, that is precisely why they are called &#8220;Calle Larga (Large Calle)&#8221; (<a href=\"https:\/\/venicewiki.org\/wiki\/Calle_Larga_San_Marco\">Calle Larga San Marco<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/venicewiki.org\/wiki\/Calle_Larga_XXII_Marzo\">Calle Larga XXII Marzo<\/a>).<br \/><\/p>\r\n<p>In ancient times throughout the city was privately owned, but when they were granted permission to build new buildings, the\u00a0<strong>Republic<\/strong>\u00a0forced the owners to leave a passage, which became public, between a property and the other.
