The walkway allows you to enjoy three of the sides of the Basilica, the\u00a0St. Mark’s Square<\/a>, the\u00a0Piazzetta San Marco<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0Piazzetta dei Leoncini<\/a>.<\/p>\r\n\r\n On the south elevation is admirable the beautiful mosaic of the\u00a0Madonna and Child<\/strong>, popularly known as the\u00a0Lady of Fornareto<\/strong>\u00a0under which is kept burning a reminder of the moons Fornareto, little baker, executed innocent for a murder he did not commit.<\/p>\r\n\r\n <\/p>\r\n\r\n <\/p>\r\n\r\n
In 828 Justiniano Partecipazio laid the foundation of\u00a0St. Mark’s Basilica<\/strong>\u00a0after he was transported from Alexandria to\u00a0Venice<\/a>\u00a0the body of the Evangelist, by gathering the oratory of the previous church dedicated to\u00a0San Teodoro<\/strong>.

In 978 he was ordered, then the famous Greek goldsmiths, the\u00a0Pala d’Oro<\/a>, because it was exposed during the most important celebrations that were carried out in the\u00a0Basilica di San Marco<\/strong>. It was in the centuries expanded and renovated several times, until it was just as you see it today: a magnificent Byzantine works of gold with numerous gems and enamel set around images of Jesus Christ during his apostolic period.
The\u00a0Pala d’Oro<\/a>\u00a0should still be considered only one of the many artifacts that the\u00a0St. Mark<\/a>\u00a0Treasury holds in its rooms. Jars of sardonic, agate jars, chalices and reliquaries with gems, cups and bowls made of rock crystal, are some of the visible objects in the museum.<\/p>\r\n
