Description<\/h1>\r\n\r\n

The main waterway running through\u00a0Venice<\/a>\u00a0is the\u00a0Grand Canal<\/strong>. Most likely it was the bed of a river that carried its water to the sea. Some of these homes were also warehouses for goods that arrived from all over the known world, so as to become the\u00a0Grand Canal<\/strong>\u00a0the largest port in the world until the sixteenth century, as even the\u00a0Rialto’s Bridge<\/a>\u00a0before its construction in stone, was a wooden drawbridge, as seen from the framework of the\u00a0Carpaccio<\/a>, now the\u00a0Academy Galleries<\/a>, or in the perspective map of\u00a0Jacopo de Barbari<\/a>.<\/p>\r\n\r\n

The\u00a0Casa fondaco<\/a>, so it was called this type of dwelling, had the warehouse on the ground floor, mezzanine and offices in the house of the merchant to the main floors.<\/p>\r\n\r\n


In ancient times, almost all the buildings that face the\u00a0Grand Canal<\/strong>\u00a0were painted.\u00a0Tiziano Vecellio<\/a>\u00a0was commissioned to paint the exterior wall to the street of\u00a0German Warehouse<\/a>. The work he has done, however, only traces remain in\u00a0State Archives<\/a>\u00a0which states that perform their work was paid with 150 gold coins only after prosecutors of\u00a0San Marco<\/a>\u00a0had verified that it had been performed in a workmanlike manner.<\/p>\r\n

The night this wonderful gateway to the city was closed by a thick chain that crossed the Channel and was blocking actually browsing inside the city.<\/p>\r\n

In the\u00a0Grand Canal<\/strong>\u00a0flow into the main streams of\u00a0Venice<\/a>, the\u00a0Cannaregio Canal<\/a>, which is reached with large boats from the mainland, the\u00a0Rio di Noale<\/a>\u00a0leading directly towards the north lagoon, the\u00a0Rio’s German Warehouse<\/a>\u00a0which allows us to move swiftly towards\u00a0Castello<\/a>\u00a0and the\u00a0Arsenal<\/a>, the\u00a0Rio di San Luca<\/a>\u00a0which flows directly in front the\u00a0Church of Health<\/a>, the\u00a0Rio San Polo<\/a>\u00a0road which crosses the\u00a0Sestieri<\/a>\u00a0of\u00a0San Polo<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0Santa Croce<\/a>, the\u00a0Rio di Ca’ Foscari<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0Rio di San Trovaso<\/a>\u00a0that lead into the inner parts of the District of\u00a0Dorsoduro<\/a>.
<\/p>\r\n

The\u00a0Grand Canal<\/strong>\u00a0is crossed by four bridges. In chronological order, the first to be built was the\u00a0Rialto’s Bridge<\/a>\u00a0which is known since 1264, only to be built in stone in 1592 as we see it today. Then it was built in 1864\u00a0Accademia Bridge<\/a>, first as iron footbridge and then wooden stands today. Only in 1931 they built the\u00a0Scalzi Bridge<\/a>\u00a0before the\u00a0Railway Station Saint Lucia<\/a>\u00a0which replaced in case of this iron footbridge. To get to this day with the construction of the\u00a0Constitution Bridge<\/a>\u00a0opened September 11, 2008, but much discussed in the type, extremely out of context, because it was not necessary, if not to some unscrupulous trader, and the high costs, leavened during construction.<\/p>\r\n\r\n
