In this space were and are all hosted major events of the city life.<\/p>\r\n\r\n<p>From the construction of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/venicewiki.org\/wiki\/Basilica_di_San_Marco\">Basilica of San Mark<\/a>\u00a0that backdrop, the square was enlarged, with the silting of the channel\u00a0<strong>Botario<\/strong>\u00a0which crossed about halfway through the space of the square.
