TIZIANO VECELLIO (Pieve di Cadore 1495 – Venezia 1576), painter

Titian considered the more important Venetian painter of Five hundred. On his date of birth and on the production of his first years sure data don't exist. They usually consider as his teachers the Venetian mosaicista Sabastiano Zuccato, as well as Gentile Bellini and Giovanni Bellini.


Of 1508-1509 is the frescos painted by Titian and Giorgione on the façade of the the German Warehouse to Venice, which did succession the 1510-11 Titian frescos in the School from the Saint to Padua.
From the 1515 Titian worked among the other for the families of Este, Gonzaga, Farnese and della Rovere and for the king Francis I of France.
In 1533 it became painter of court of the emperor Carlo V that he conferred him the order of the gold Toson.

In 1545-46 he worked in Rome for Paul III. In his last years it was almost exclusively to the service of Phillip II.

Titian died of plague in the 1576.
