The vaporetto is the main form of public transport in use in Venice. As public transport is similar to the Bus in other world cities.

Its name comes from the steam, the old engine that was taking the first means of public use that connected in 1857 Venice to Chioggia.

The vaporetto part, both in one direction than in the other, every 12 minutes.
Even during the night are maintained the connection routes, although at a lower frequency, about 35 minutes from each other, skipping some stops as San Stae, San Silvestro, Santa Maria del Giglio.
The ticket price is € 7.50 per person for a period of 75 minutes, but you will save definitely taking a timed ticket, which are divided into different periods of time: 12 hours, 24 hours, 36 hours, 48 hours, 72 hours.
